*REVEALED* PS Plus September – this month’s games NOW LIVE!
The PlayStation Plus free games for September are here! They are Need for Speed Heat, TOEM and Granblue Fantasy: Versus.
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life has also been rumoured to be coming in the middle of the month.
Expectations were certainly high after August’s PlayStation Plus releases set the bar pretty high with three fantastic games being made available on the Plus Essential tier.
Remember, you only have until when the next wave of games is released to download them, so please make sure to do that pronto if you don’t want to lose out! It’s not possible to go back to previous months and download games.

PS Plus has always typically been incredibly strong, and provides a ton of value for PS owners in the form of free games and early access. In our view, it’s a service that is totally worth it, with the value of free games and other perks far outweighing the cost.
To maximise value, if possible try to go for the £49.99 / $59.99 package. It’s more expensive up front but compared to the £6.99 / $9.99 , you’ll save nearly £34 / $40 – which is almost the price of a new game!
PS Plus September – PlayStation Showcase.
Rumours were swirling that September could be a big month for PlayStation. That’s because usually Sony uses the month to hold a PlayStation Showcase event to make some new announcements.
Last year, the company gave us our first proper look at God of War: Ragnarok . We also got a release date for Gran Turismo 7 , and the reveal of a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake as a PS5 console exclusive.
According to XboxEra journalist, Nick Baker, a State of Play broadcast could be pencilled in for September 8. However, that’s two days after the current PS Plus games are due to change over.
We’ll have to wait and see if we do indeed get a showcase, and if any bonus PS Plus announcements are within.
PS Plus Essential game predictions for September 2022.
Now that we know the games, it’s great to see some of the early rumours were correct!
Leaker Nibel correctly stated that Need for Speed Heat would be one of the games revealed in the line up. Also correct were the supporting games, TOEM and Granblue Fantasy: Versus. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life has also been rumoured to be coming in the middle of the month.
The alleged September PS Plus line up for September.
Need for Speed Heat.
A welcome PS Plus game – racers tend to go down very well with the community. NFS Heat is a decent game, and scored impressively with critics.
It’s regarded as the strongest entry for some time, and with stunning visuals and breathtaking driving mechanics – courtesy of the team from Ghost games – it’ll provide hours of fun.
TOEM.
This BAFTA-winning, hand-drawn adventure game sees you set off on a photographic adventure. It’s all in black and white and sees you set out on an expedition across Scandinavian landscapes meeting characters and taking photos.
We haven’t played it, but the reviews have been very strong with a rating of 10/10 from Steam users. If it turns out to be one of the games, it’s definitely worth your time.
Granblue Fantasy: Versus.
This 2.5D fighting game will be a huge hit with those craving beat-em-up actions. Colourful visuals and fast, frenetic gameplay have helped this go down a storm with the community.
Even if these games are not your thing, Versus could well be worth your time – especially if its free.
Games we hoped to see.
The below is a mixture of games we wanted to see but sadly didn’t make the cut.
The Last of Us Part 2.
As unlikely as it may first sound, a huge get would be The Last of Us Part II . The post-apocalyptic epic only released back in 2020 and is still a decent seller to this day. However, there’s a rather big factor that may see it brought to Sony’s PS Plus service.
Surely then, it would make sense for Sony to allow players to get themselves acquainted with the world and drum up some extra attention for the new release by putting Part II on PS Plus?

Saints Row 4: Re-Elected.
Again, it’d certainly make sense to let players go wild in Steelport and remind them what makes the series so beloved with fans before Deep Silver hope to introduce a new generation of fans to the series. One slight mark against this being chosen, however, is that the game is already available in the PS Plus Games Catalogue in the Premium and Extra tiers.
Essential Wildcard prediction 1 – Modern Warfare (2019)
Now this is a Wildcard but it would be amazing if Modern Warfare (2019) arrived in this month’s free games.
Not only would it act as a perfect prelude to the upcoming Modern Warfare 2, but it could work as an amazing piece of hype building to get the community even more excited about the upcoming game.

We won’t have too long to find out for sure. As per the PlayStation Blog, the games for August will leave the PS Plus service on September 6. Expect the announcement of the PS Plus September offerings the week before. We’ll update when we hear more.
Essential Wildcard prediction 2 – Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Such a brilliant game that has been rumoured to be arriving to PS Plus for some time.
The likelihood is pretty low, but it doesn’t stop us wanting to play this again. Plus, for those who haven’t played it, but enjoyed Elden Ring, Sekiro offers a more structured, less vast but equally as enjoyable Soulsborne experience.
For some people, Sekiro is actually considered the hardest game of the lot!

Essential Wildcard prediction 3 – Max Payne 3.
With confirmation that a remaster of Max Payne is in the works, there’s never been a better time to pick up and enjoy Rockstar’s glorious ballet of violence.
It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 10 years since Max Payne 3 came out. It still looks and plays brilliantly and I can’t recommend it enough to those who haven’t had a go yet.
Videogamer.com is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API / Last updated on 2023-05-14.
Seeing it arrive on PS Plus would be amazing – a wildcard for sure, but it would go down a storm.
Community Wildcard Prediction – Cult of the Lamb.
Looking towards the community, another wildcard prediction could be indie hit Cult of the Lamb. Though it released just this month, players have immediately asked why the game isn’t on PS Plus or Xbox Game Pass.
The dungeon crawler has already welcomed a million players in its first week. While introducing the game so soon after launch to PS Plus seems a little mean-spirited to those fans who picked it up at launch, it does make sense to strike while the iron’s hot.
Other games wanted by the community include:
Two Point Hospital – this 2018 game would be hugely welcome but is unlikely this month Need for Speed Hot Pursuit – if we see Need for Speed Heat, then Hot Pursuit won’t come out for a while as they’ll likely want to space it out Destroy All Humans! – the brand new remastered game Destroy All Humans 2! Re-probed was released at the end of August , so this would seem unlikely. Sifu this brilliant beat-em-up / adventure / combat sim has gone down a storm with critics and fans/ While it would be welcome, we cant imagine it coming to PS Plus any time soon Aliens Fireteam Elite – a game with a growing fan base and has been well received by critics. There’s every chance we’ll see this arrive, but probably not this month Crysis 2 – by far the best of the 3 games in terms of pacing and story, Crysis 2 would be a brilliant entry this month. Sadly we think that’s unlikely, but we may well see the Crysis Remastered Collection appear some time soon Alan Wake Remastered – this would be amazing if it turned out to be included. We hope it’ll make an appearance soon, but sadly we think it’s unlikely this month.
PS Plus August games review.
Last month’s games were pretty decent, offering a real mix. They were: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and Yakuza Like A Dragon . And also Little Nightmares .
Overall, it was a strong offering, but it’s there to be beaten. Having a real AAA in the mix this month would certainly help September’s free games get the edge.
